Brand: Realistic

The term "Realistic TR-801" is actually a bit misleading as the TR-801 was not created by Realistic, but rather by the now-defunct Japanese electronics company, Aiwa. The TR-801, also known as the Aiwa TR-801, was a tape deck released in the early 1980s that revolutionized the audio industry with its exceptional sound quality. It's considered by many audiophiles as one of the finest tape decks ever produced, earning it a reputation as a "holy grail" for collectors. While there is no such thing as a truly "realistic" TR-801, some collectors and modifiers have taken it upon themselves to create machines that come as close to replicating the original's performance and features. These machines are often painstakingly rebuilt using OEM parts and components sourced from original machines, as well as modern upgrades that address some of the limitations of the original design. Some of these mods even go as far as replacing the deck's tape motors with more reliable and powerful ones or adding upgrades like Digital Signal Processing (DSP) to improve sound quality. However, for those who prefer stock-condition machines, there are still a significant number of original TR-801s available on the market, both in working condition and in need of restoration. Prices for these machines vary depending on their condition, but they can fetch a premium due to their rarity and legendary reputation for sound quality.
